Summer PDC Education Training Workshop 2023

The workshop this year was held in person and was hosted at the Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, from July 31 to August 4. Our goal was to gather a cohort of 20 participants. This workshop was the first we have offered to include Computer Engineering topics. The training was announced repeatedly, starting in March, via list servers, including SIGCSE-members and TCPP-announce, as well as announcements at a SIGCSE booth and through direct email.

Applicants were asked to submit a proposal using a Qualtrics survey in which they described the course they would modify to include parallel and/or distributed computing concepts, and the intervention they were planning. There were 30 completed proposals. Of these, 20 were invited. One participant withdrew on the day of the workshop. Participants were paid $3000 to attend, with an additional $2000 to be awarded upon submission of a research paper, based on their efforts, to a suitable publication outlet.

Three weeks before the workshop, the cohort was divided into five teams of four, one of which became a team of three as one of the invitees did not attend. The team formation was based on similarity of courses taught and geographical proximity, and team members were encouraged to introduce themselves online and work towards some team building prior to the workshop.
